Port Vila Market is open 24hrs Monday until Sat afternoon. The stallholders simply stay until they have sold all their produce, sleeping under or behind the stall table. Many come to the market on ferries that might only make two trips aweek to their home island.
we brought green mandarins, that were incredible sweet, the best passion fruit I've ever tasted and with bananas currently costing a staggering $13.00 kg in Melbourne it felt totally decadent to buy an entire branch of bananas costing only 300v = A$3.60! fresh unroasted peanuts still on the stalk were an interesting tase experince but I still prefere mine roasted and salted!
Produce was very cheap except the kava root which was between A$30.00 and $80.00.
Meals cost about $3.50- 4.50 and consist of rice, veg, and your choice of steak, chicken or eggs occasionaly fish was also on the menu.
