Partying In Port Vila
The start of any holiday always demands hard partying and this holiday was no exception!
there were welcome drinks,it's hot drinks, it's saturday night drinks, sunday recovery drinks, and farwell drinks for Stephens past crew, a group of local lads who had worked on the boat for a few weeks before they sailed to Tanna (before our arrival).
Saturday night drinks included a vist to a Kava Bar. The Kava was mixed in bowls large enough to bath a 5 year old and it was a disgusting dirty milky color. the Nukamal (hut for drinking Kava ) was on the beach front and consisted of a large shelter where Kava and snacks (sweet potatoe chips) were served, and a collection of scattered shelters to retire to with your friends and kava. Kava tastes as bad as it looks and I had to hold my breath and not smell it!
After a few shells of karva we moved on to the local night club ( where locals hang), the locals were good value, Bob Marley is king in vanuatu, string bands are the local music and hard to describe but once those voices and that laid back beat get in your head it is impossible not to join in the dancing. I was enjoying attention from a very cute island boy but unfourtunatly and over zealous bouncer felt that he was doing something wrong and he got kicked out! not sure what that was about but I was rather disapointed at his removal.we stayed late and strolled/ staggered back to the boat to sleep!
