island of black magic, hot springs
Ambryn Island is associated with black magic and some natives will not go there for fear of being bewitched. knowing this we were not suprised when Susan did not want to come on land to explore. we convinced here to come explaining that there was safety in numbers and Gerry promised to do karate on any evil spirits that came near her it was very funny! but you probarly needed to be there!
While we were exploring the rocks Gerry gashed his foot on a rock, before we could take him back to the boat Susan insisted on washing every trace of blood from the rocks. when I asked her why she did this she said " to keep the devil from following the blood"
arriving at Ambryn
Fresh Hot springs flow through black volcanic sand, making places too hot to walk. We swam in a hot pool the water temp was perfect and we all agreed to coome back next morning and have a mud bath and swim.
Alas the tide was out when we returned the next day and our perfect pool was near boiling without the cooling effect of the tidal water.
Ambryn is like most of the Vaunuatu Island, volcanic in origin and the beach here was black sand, some very course and some fine. this was a fresh hot spring and we swam and exfoliated in the mud. the water had to be at least 32%c.
